Christmas 2014

This Christmas was quieter than most with Tamsin and John visiting Margaret and Michael Sones in Northern Ireland.

We were kept up to date with posts on FaceBook and email and it looked as if there was a lot of love and spoiling going on.

We had lunch with the Archers and I took the opportunity to play around with the photos this year.

Then it was giggles and screams as the Sharps gathered at our place in the evening.

Web Banners

This Year I was commissioned by the Port Augusta City Council to photograph and design a range of venues and  scenarios for the Council web page.
These are composite images that have been designed to provide the big picture but also include a focus on the people of our town. There is the added component  of use on various implements such as phones, tablets and wide screens to consider.

Melissa and Neil's Wedding

The second wedding for 2014, and the weather was not hot.... just windy... there is always something to contend with.

At least the bride wanted some different scenarios which stopped the wind winning on the day and resulted in some great images.

A Brush With Art and ARID

Well what a busy couple of months it has been!
An Exhibition and demonstration at Rawnsley Park for "A Brush With Art"; Sculpture pieces for FIBRESPACE and CURDNATTA installed at The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden; Life on the Edge exhibition at Curdnatta, pieces exhibited in FREE RANGE and BLOOMS; a photoshoot for RUOK.  And in the middle of all this a visit from Tamsin, Polly and Elliot which lasted for 3 weeks and included catch ups with the rest of the family and Tam and Polly getting sick.

I must admit I am enjoying the slower pace of this week.

The great news is I sold a half a dozen artworks and several books, bags and cushions  and to top it off Curdnatta's sculpture was judged second in the ARID sculptural event.

Family get Together at Horsham

A quick family holiday at Horsham provided the opportunity for everyone to reconnect, especially
the cousins who are still developing their awareness of each other.

There were some fun times together and an early birthday party for Polly.

We also saw some of the local attractions.
The journey to Halls Gap gave us an insight into the devastating bush fires that occurred last summer. There is new growth but the trees took on an alien presence with their deformity. Hopefully the area will get back to its former beauty soon.

A trip to the "Top End"

A quick trip to the "Top End" provided a fantastic opportunity to photograph a different kind of  rugged Australian landscape.

The pics of Edith Falls have been well received on Australia.com.

An aerial view of Kakadu showed the landscape as an ethereal world with the fires of the dry season smoking eriely below and winding rivers glinting in the sun.

Katherine Gorge provided some challenging lighting  but the reflections added  to the sense of grandure.

Although I wasn't particularly intereted in crocodiles we found that they are a huge part of  tourism in the territory and I now know more about them than I could have ever imagined.

Welcome to Elliot

Well what an exciting couple of weeks we have had. Elliot  Harrison Sones was born on 31st of May 2014.
We arrived in Melbourne at 4pm and within 2 hours took on our babysitting duties with Elliot arriving into the world at 10.15pm weighing 3.5 Kilograms.

Mum and baby were home within a couple of days and we managed to spend a lot of time getting to know the new addition to the family and rekindling our relationship with Polly who is nearly 3. She took a great interest in her little brother and will hopefully be a help to her mum in the future.

We managed to have a few outings including brunch at The Boathouse http://www.theboat-house.com.au  and a vist to the Museum to see John and Tamsin's video contribution to the First Peoples exhibition   http://museumvictoria.com.au/bunjilaka/whatson/current-exhibitions/first-peoples/
well done Tamsin to do all this in the first 2 weeks... Super MUM !

Then it was off to Hobart for a couple of days to catch up with Steph and see some of the attractions at the Dark Mofo Winter festival. The light beams over Hobart were spectacular and the chilly evening taking pics will be well remembered.
